Birding at Bear Head (May 15th, 2010 - Sep 4th, 2010)
Every Saturday from May 15 through September 4, 7-9 AM. Meet at the park office for a guided walk in the park listening and looking for the variety of bird species within the park. Bring your own binoculars or a limited number will be available for checking out. Dress for the weather, bug spray recommended.Location: Bear Head Lake State Park

Vermilion Run/Walk/Fun Run (Jul 3rd, 2010)
The Vermilion 10K Run begins and ends at the Tower School and continues along the shores of Lake Vermilion. New biking/hiking trails are used for much of the run. Starting time is 8 AM. There is also a 3K walk from the school to Hoodoo Point and back, and a 1 mile fun run for children 12 and under. 3 mile Walk 8:01 AM 1 Mile Kids Fun Run 8:05 AM Registrations accepted race day starting at 7:30 AM. T-shirt sizes may be limited for same day registrations.Location: Tower
Tower-Soudan 4th of July Celebration (Jul 3rd - 4th, 2010)
One of the oldest and finest celebrations in the area. This year's parade and fireworks will take place on SATURDAY, JULY 3. Breakfast with the Bears (Jul 7th, 2010)
This is a limited time opportunity to experience a morning breakfast with the bears. Share your quiet morning period watching the early morning dew sparkle on the backs of our morning bears visiting the sanctuary. We've developed this program as a chance to see different bears that only frequent the sanctuary in the early morning hours. This is a favorable occasion to gain photos using early morning light. Come and join us for a superb continental breakfast and watch early dawn bear activity from the safety and comfort of our viewing deck.Location: Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary

Moose of Minnesota (Jul 8th, 2010)
7-8 PM Join a DNR Wildlife biologist to explore the biology of the largest Minnesota wild animal – the moose. Bears in Figure and Form Drawing Class (Jul 12th, 2010)
This unique outdoor drawing class is open to all levels of skills and is suitable for all ages who want to improve their drawing skills and learn more about the form and function of the black bear. Different drawing styles will be explored using a wide range of media. Some of the things class participants will learn is how to equip themselves for an outdoor session, how to sketch quickly to avoid possible problems nature may bring, how to transfer a landscape or scene onto paper, etc.Location: Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary

Heritage Day Celebration (Jul 17th, 2010)
10 AM - 5 PM Celebrate the various heritages of the Iron Range with surface mine tours, blacksmithing and rock knapping demonstrations, geology and nature hikes, traditional food and music, and many other fun activities. 4th Annual Lard Loop (Jul 31st, 2010)
Ballard Turnbull Memorial Scholarship Race. Walk, run, bike or rollerblade the 10K route - much of it along the shore of Lake Vermilion. Proceeds go to a scholarship fund for Iron Range area high school seniors planning to pursue a medical-related degree.
