Birding at Bear Head (May 15th, 2010 - Sep 4th, 2010)
Every Saturday from May 15 through September 4, 7-9 AM. Meet at the park office for a guided walk in the park listening and looking for the variety of bird species within the park. Bring your own binoculars or a limited number will be available for checking out. Dress for the weather, bug spray recommended.Location: Bear Head Lake State Park

Lake Vermilion Harbor Festival (Jun 6th - 7th, 2010)
10 - 5 each day Live music, over 70 crafters and vendors. Performers will include the Northfield Choir from Wichita, Kansas, local favorites Pat Surface and the Boundary Waters Boys, Ron E. Cash and Cowboy Angel Blue.Location: Tower Community Center

Take-a-Kid Fishing Weekend (Jun 11th - 13th, 2010)
Minnesota residents 18 and older fish free with children younger than 16.Cook Timber Days (Jun 11th - 13th, 2010)
Annual event held to recognize the impact of the timber industry on Cook and the surrounding area. Events include a lumberjack show, art & craft booths, classic car/motorcycle display, food & beverage vendors, live music, fireman's challenge, dances, fireworks, displays, children's games, races, and a parade on Sunday.Location: Cook

Open House Day - Let's Go Fishing Event (Jun 12th, 2010)
Admission to the park is free on this day, come and explore! During the afternoon (3-5p.m.), drop in at the fishing pier and we’ll provide the fishing instruction, equipment and bait. No fishing license is necessary for Minnesota residents fishing Bear Head Lake.Location: Bear Head Lake State Park

34th Annual Land of the Loon Festival (Jun 19th - 20th, 2010)
Saturday 10 AM - 6 PM and Sunday 10 AM - 5 PM Largest ethnic festival in northern Minnesota with over 300 exhibitors and 25 ethnic food booths. Entertainment, parade.Location: Olcott Park, Virginia

Lake Vermilion "Let's Take a Kid Fishing" (Jun 23rd, 2010)
Noon - 5 PM. Two kids per boat. Age limit: 10 to 15. No cell phones on boat. Guides will provide all necessary equipment unless they want to bring own gear! Fishing from noon to five with shore lunch at Frazer Bay landing following. Registration will end June 10. Event will take place rain or shine! Prizes will be awarded at the shore lunch location.Price: FREE

Spend a Night Surrounded by Bears (Jun 28th - 29th, 2010)
What goes bump in the night? Find out by spending a night at the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary surrounded by black bears. Experience what it is like to camp with bears from the safety of our viewing platform. This is an excellent opportunity to view the bears nocturnal habits while learning about bear behavior and safety. Learn what it takes to camp in bear country and take these precautions home with you to practice on your own.Location: Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary

Geocaching 101 (Jun 29th, 2010)
6:30 - 8 PM. Learn about the sport of geocaching. The program answers questions about the sport, including how to use a GPS, how to find caches, and proper caching etiquette. The program begins at the visitor center. Limited number of GPS units available. The program takes place inside and outside, so dress appropriately.Location: Soudan Underground Mine State Park
